02:19 PM EDT, 07/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates headline, and first, fifth and sixth paragraphs with Amazon's ( AMZN ) statement.)
Amazon ( AMZN ) disputed on Monday a report from the Wall Street Journal which said that the online retailer increased its prices on low-cost products in the five months since the Trump administration announced tariffs.
The Journal used its own analysis of 1,200 item prices provided by Traject Data, according to the report, which was published Sunday.
Meanwhile, the analysis showed that prices for the same items at its competitor Walmart ( WMT ) dropped almost 2%, the report said.
Manufacturers of some of the products that became more expensive on Amazon ( AMZN ) said they haven't raised the prices they charge retailers, the report said.
In an emailed statement to MT Newswires, an Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesperson called the Journal report "false and misleading," saying that the company investigated the items mentioned and found that "the vast majority had no price change or a price decrease."
"Amazon ( AMZN ) has always worked hard to meet or beat the prices of products available for sale at other retailers, and nothing has changed in our approach," the spokesperson said.
Walmart ( WMT ) did not immediately reply to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
