Update: Market Chatter: Amazon.com Sites in Italy Raided Over Alleged Chinese Goods Smuggling
Nov 24, 2025 8:38 AM

11:19 AM EST, 11/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to include a statement from Amazon ( AMZN ) in the fourth paragraph.)

Two Amazon.com ( AMZN ) sites in Italy were raided by Italian authorities over alleged smuggling of Chinese goods, Reuters reported Monday, citing three sources familiar with the matter.

Guardia di Finanza tax police and customs agency officers seized about 5,000 products from a logistics hub in Bergamo, and conducted IT-related seizures at the company's headquarters in Milan, the sources told Reuters.

Italian prosecutors allege that Amazon ( AMZN ) moves and sells Chinese goods in Italy and other EU markets without paying tariffs or import sales taxes, Reuters said.

An Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesperson declined to comment on the matter but told MT Newswires that the company is "committed to complying with all applicable tax laws," and cooperates with relevant authorities.

Guardia di Finanza did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comments.
