12:14 PM EDT, 03/21/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Adds more detail about EU investigations in second paragraph, Possible Meta Platforms probe in third paragraph.)

Apple ( AAPL ) and Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) are set to face the first investigations under the European Union's Digital Markets Act, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The probes, which are expected to be announced in the next few days, will seek to determine whether app developers can fairly access Apple's ( AAPL ) App Store or Google's ( GOOG ) Play Store as well as the fees, terms and conditions the companies set for users, Bloomberg said, citing the sources.

Another possible target for the EU investigators will be Meta Platforms ( META ) , particularly if the company follows through with a proposal to add monthly fees to its Facebook and Instagram social media platforms, the sources reportedly told Bloomberg.

Apple ( AAPL ), Alphabet, and Meta did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
