Update: Market Chatter: BHP Faces Unresolved Issues With Union at Chilean Copper Mine
Jun 6, 2024 12:57 PM

03:34 PM EDT, 06/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with attempt to reach labor union for comment in fifth paragraph.)

BHP (BHP) and unionized workers at the company's Spence copper mine in Chile have settled some minor differences, but major issues remain unresolved, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing union head Ronald Salcedo.

The Spence Mine Workers Union represents more than 1,100 workers at the mine, according to the union's website.

Mediated talks started Wednesday and are expected to continue for the full five allotted business days, Salcedo reportedly told Bloomberg.

According to Chilean labor laws, if an agreement isn't reached by Tuesday, the workers can extend the mediated talks or strike the next day, according to the report.

Neither BHP nor the union immediately responded to MT Newswires' request for comment.
