08:47 AM EDT, 05/20/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with details, attempts to reach aircraft manufacturers.)
Boeing ( BA ) and Airbus are working with Saudi Arabia to get the country's aluminum and titanium approved for use in their airplanes, Bloomberg reported Monday, quoting Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej.
Boeing ( BA ) last year signed a memorandum of understanding to consider the use of Saudi titanium produced by the firm Tasnee, which produces about 10% of the world's titanium sponge supply.
Al-Duailej reportedly said in an interview the agency is also discussing producing some aircraft components locally.
"Boeing ( BA ), Airbus, and Embraer ( ERJ ) are all showing interest in setting up long-term facilities for certain components in the kingdom," he reportedly told Bloomberg.
Boeing ( BA ), Airbus, and Embraer ( ERJ ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
