Jul 29, 2024 11:12 AM

01:44 PM EDT, 07/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Spirit AeroSystems ( SPR ) response in the third paragraph.)

Boeing ( BA ) has asked suppliers to provide records of Chinese titanium purchases dating back to 2014 following concerns about the use of false documentation to verify the metal's authenticity in commercial jets, Reuters reported Friday, citing a company letter.

The company's letter to suppliers, sent this month, asks for a response by Aug. 9 in order to ensure proper compliance, reported the report.

"Documentation compliance is critical in the aviation industry," a spokesperson for Boeing ( BA ) supplier Spirit AeroSystems ( SPR ) told MT Newswires. "We've verified the safety and integrity of all titanium parts in our inventory and production."

Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment by MT Newswires.
