Boeing ( BA ) is nearing a deal to sell as many as 500 jets to China, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The specifics of the complex deal, including the types and volume of aircraft models and delivery timetables, are still being finalized, and could potentially fall through, according to the report.

Chinese government officials have begun consulting local airlines about how many aircraft they will need, the sources told Bloomberg.
