Carlyle Group ( CG ) is close to acquiring BASF's coatings business in a roughly 7 billion-euro ($8.17 billion) deal, the Financial Times reported Monday, citing sources familiar with the plan.
Carlyle came ahead of other private capital groups in an auction for the business and is now in exclusive discussions with BASF, the unnamed sources told the publication.
A BASF spokesperson told MT Newswires in an email Wednesday that the company does not comment on "market rumors or speculation."
BASF approached the market in Q2 to mull strategic alternatives for the coatings activities and a decision is anticipated in Q4, the spokesperson said.
Carlyle did not respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
