Update: Market Chatter: China Chipmakers Seeking to Triple Output of Advanced Processors Next Year
Aug 27, 2025 6:26 AM

09:00 AM EDT, 08/27/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Nvidia's ( NVDA ) response in the fourth paragraph.)

Chinese chipmakers supporting Huawei, DeepSeek, and other tech firms are seeking to triple the country's output of artificial intelligence-capable processors next year in a race with US companies such as Nvidia ( NVDA ) to develop the most advanced AI, the Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

One plant producing AI processors for Huawei is scheduled to start production as early as late this year, with two more to follow next year, the report said.

The total capacity of plants could exceed the current output of similar plants at Semiconductor Manufacturing International, China's leading fab, which plans to double its advanced chip capacity next year, the report said.

Nvidia ( NVDA ) declined to comment while Huawei and DeepSeek did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
