CVS Health ( CVS ) is currently holding off on offering COVID-19 vaccines in 16 states due to the "current regulatory environment," The New York Times reported Friday, citing company spokesperson Amy Thibault.
The company is waiting until the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends the vaccines before offering them nationwide, as pharmacists in some states are not allowed to administer them without the endorsement, the spokesperson told the news outlet.
According to the report, the states where CVS is not currently offering the vaccines are Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia, along with the District of Columbia.
In an email to MT Newswires, Thibault said CVS pharmacies can administer COVID-19 vaccines with an authorized prescription, depending on the patient's age, in all 16 states except Massachusetts, Nevada, and New Mexico. Based on the current regulatory environment, CVS Pharmacy is offering Covid-19 vaccinations in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming, the spokesperson said.
"We expect to receive the updated 2025-2026 COVID-19 vaccines in the coming days," Thibault also said.
