Update: Market Chatter: Delta Air Lines Hires Famed Attorney David Boies to Seek Potential Damages From CrowdStrike, Microsoft Over Outage
Jul 30, 2024 11:19 AM

01:59 PM EDT, 07/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Microsoft's ( MSFT ) response in the fifth paragraph.)

Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) has hired high-profile attorney David Boies to pursue potential damages from CrowdStrike Holdings ( CRWD ) and Microsoft ( MSFT ) after an outage earlier this month, CNBC reported late Monday.

The report said no lawsuit has been filed, but the airline wants compensation from CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) and Microsoft ( MSFT ).

According to the report, the estimated cost of the outages to Delta was $350 million to $500 million, with the airline dealing with more than 176,000 requests for refunds or reimbursement after the cancellation of almost 7,000 flights.

"We are aware of the reporting, but have no knowledge of a lawsuit and have no further comment," a CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) spokesperson said in a statement to MT Newswires on Tuesday.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) declined comment to MT Newswires, while Delta didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
