Walt Disney ( DIS ) and Comcast's ( CMCSA ) NBCUniversal reached a standstill in talks to resolve Hulu's ownership due to a significant disagreement over how to value the streaming service, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing people familiar with the situation.

The stalemate raises the prospect of taking the matter to court, the report said.

Comcast ( CMCSA ) put Hulu's value at more than of $40 billion, and Disney ( DIS ) submitted an estimate of $27.5 billion with independent appraiser RBC Capital mandated to referee the deal, the report said.

Disney ( DIS ) and Comcast ( CMCSA ) didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.

Shares of Disney ( DIS ) rose 0.9% in recent Friday trading, and Comcast ( CMCSA ) gained 1%.
