11:26 AM EDT, 04/01/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with statement from Eli Lilly ( LLY ) in the fifth paragraph.)
Eli Lilly's ( LLY ) weight loss drug Zepbound is facing a shortage across the US, Bloomberg News said Thursday, citing Rite Aid and Amazon.com's ( AMZN ) Amazon Pharmacy.
Eli Lilly ( LLY ) has said that the shot is available for pharmacies to order from their wholesalers, however, multiple pharmacies have said that some or all doses of the drug were on backorder, the report added.
Four doses of Zepbound are listed as unavailable on Amazon Pharmacy. There is a "nationwide shortage" of weight loss drugs, including Zepbound, an Amazon ( AMZN ) spokesperson was quoted as saying.
The demand for Zepbound has resulted in "some sporadic supply constraints," Rite Aid told MT Newswires. "We continue to communicate and work with our suppliers to mitigate where possible."
"While Lilly continues to manufacture and ship all doses of Zepbound, due to the unprecedented demand for these medicines, some patients may experience difficulty when trying to fill their prescription at their pharmacy," Eli Lilly ( LLY ) told MT Newswires. "Given local and regional supply chain dynamics, patients having trouble obtaining their medicine at one pharmacy may try others in their area."
Amazon ( AMZN ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment by MT Newswires.
