European Union member states will vote on April 9 on how to respond to US tariffs on steel and aluminum tariffs, Reuters reported Thursday, citing a senior EU official.

The European Commission is evaluating the US measures to understand their impact and to determine how to react in a "firm, calibrated and proportionate manner," Olof Gill, European Commission spokesperson for trade, said in a statement emailed to MT Newswires.

"All options are on the table. We will have more clarity on the steps we will take in the coming days," Gill said. "Our response will also be carefully timed to allow adequate time for negotiation."
