F5's (FFIV) systems were allegedly breached by state-backed hackers from China, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The cybersecurity firm reported the breach Wednesday in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, alleging that a nation-state threat actor had penetrated its network and stolen files, including parts of the source code of the BIG-IP platform.
An official at China's embassy in Washington said he was not familiar with the case but denied the accusations. "We have repeatedly stated our position on such groundless accusations that lack evidence," spokesman Liu Pengyu said in response to MT Newswires' request for comment. "China consistently opposes and combats hacking activities in accordance with the law, and we are even more opposed to the dissemination of false information for political purposes."
F5 did not reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
