09:01 AM EDT, 07/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Add comment Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) in fourth paragraph)

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating a Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) flight that flew at a low altitude over Tampa Bay last week, Reuters reported over the weekend.

The incident involved a Southwest Boeing 737 Max flying from Columbus, Ohio, on July 14, about three miles away from Tampa International Airport when it descended to around 175 feet, prompting an alert from air traffic control, the report said.

The flight was diverted to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to Reuters.

A Southwest ( LUV ) spokesperson told MT Newswires it is in contact with the FAA over the incident.
