Update: Market Chatter: Federal Judge Dismisses Trump's Lawsuit Against The New York Times for Being 'Repetitive'
Sep 21, 2025 3:09 AM

01:31 PM EDT, 09/19/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with comment from The New York Times ( NYT ) in the third paragraph.)

US District Judge Steven Merryday in Florida dismissed US President Donald Trump's defamation lawsuit against The New York Times ( NYT ) days after it was filed, Bloomberg reported Friday.

Merryday found that lawyers breached court rules requiring simple, direct claims, citing "repetitive" and "florid" allegations in the lawsuit. An edited version of the lawsuit can be refiled within the next month, according to the report.

A spokesperson for The New York Times ( NYT ) said in an emailed response to MT Newswires that the publishing company welcomes the "judge's quick ruling, which recognized that the complaint was a political document rather than a serious legal filing."

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment by MT Newswires.
