FedEx ( FDX ) and Amazon ( AMZN ) engaged last year in talks to expand their business with each other, the Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing a person familiar with the matter.
The two companies halted cooperation in 2019. But in talks last year FedEx ( FDX ) considered accepting returns of Amazon ( AMZN ) packages at its retail outlets like United Parcel Service ( UPS ) does at its network of shipping and packaging centers, the person told the Journal. A deal did not materialize.
FedEx's ( FDX ) spokesperson Caitlin Adams Maier said the company already does business with Amazon ( AMZN ) through its Seller Fulfilled Prime and Marketplace programs. "We are always open to having commercial conversations when approached with an opportunity by a current or potential customer," she said in an email response to a query by MT Newswires. "These conversations are a normal course of business."
Amazon ( AMZN ) did not reply to MT Newswires' request for comment.
