08:39 AM EDT, 04/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with a statement from Ford in the second and third paragraphs.)
Ford (F) will recall and update the engine control software of 42,652 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles in the US due to cracked fuel injectors, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"We are adding an additional population of vehicles to an already existing recall launched in 2022," a Ford spokesperson told MT Newswires, without specifying the vehicles. "Based on supplier data and subsequent field data, vehicles that had BC-level injector modification were believed to have improved robustness against stresses that can cause cracking. Our field data no longer supports this belief."
Ford will include fuel injector leak detection in the vehicles' software and install a drain tube, according to the spokesperson.
