GE Vernova ( GEV ) and Siemens Energy are in discussions to supply gas turbines for a $7 billion power project in Syria, Reuters reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The potential projects stem from a deal signed in May between Syria and a subsidiary of Qatar's Power International for the construction of four combined-cycle gas turbine power plants totaling 4,000 megawatts of capacity, according to Reuters.
Both companies are potential recipients of contracts, one source told Reuters.
A Siemens Energy spokesperson told MT Newswires in an email that a local delegation held talks with Syrian decision-makers to mull how the country's power supply could be enhanced.
"While no specific agreements or contracts have been made, we are ready to contribute our technical expertise if it can help establish and stabilize a reliable energy supply and support the population," the spokesperson said.
GE Vernova ( GEV ) did not reply to MTNewswires' request for comment.
