12:11 PM EDT, 10/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with response from a General Motors ( GM ) spokesperson in the fourth paragraph.)
General Motors ( GM ) laid off over 200 salaried workers, most of whom were from its Tech Center in Warren, Michigan, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing unnamed sources.
The automaker informed some affected staff via Slack that the job cuts were because of "business conditions" and not due to their performance, the sources reportedly said.
GM evaluated its white collar ranks to determine redundancies and to look for ways to increase efficiency when deciding on roles to cut, one of the sources reportedly said.
A GM spokesperson told MT Newswires that the company is restructuring its design engineering team to strengthen its core architectural design engineering capabilities, which resulted in the elimination of a number of CAD execution roles.
