Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) is planning to invest billions of dollars in India's southern state of Tamil Nadu to set up production of its Pixel phones, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

Tamil Nadu's Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa and other senior officials pitched the state as a manufacturing location for Pixel phones during talks with Google ( GOOG ) executives in the US, according to the report.

Google ( GOOG ) plans to set up new production lines in the state with Foxconn Technology Group while another Alphabet subsidiary Wing will assemble drones in Tamil Nadu, Bloomberg said, citing the people.

Google ( GOOG ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
