Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) laid off at least 200 workers last week from its "core" organization that includes key teams and engineering talent, CNBC reported Wednesday.
The company will hire some of the corresponding roles in Mexico and India as part of the unit's reorganization, CNBC reported Wednesday, citing internal documents.
Google ( GOOG ) last year announced plans to trim its workforce by about 12,000 jobs. That accounts for 6% of the company's headcount, according to CNBC.
A Google ( GOOG ) spokesperson confirmed the reorganization and layoffs to CNBC and that those affected can apply for open roles within the company and access outplacement service.
