Update: Market Chatter: Google Takes Down Bad Reviews of McDonald's After UnitedHealth Murder Arrest
Dec 11, 2024 3:51 AM

06:34 AM EST, 12/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with a Google ( GOOG ) statement in the third paragraph.)

Alphabet's (GOOG) Google ( GOOG ) removed negative reviews about McDonald's (MCD) after the suspect in the assassination of UnitedHealth ( UNH ) Chief Executive Brian Thompson was arrested at one of its restaurants in Pennsylvania, Reuters reported late Monday.

McDonald's was bombarded with bad reviews after Luigi Mangione, 26 years old, was captured at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania where he was spotted eating, the report said.

"These reviews violate our policies and are being removed," a Google ( GOOG ) spokesperson told MT Newswires in an emailed statement. Google ( GOOG ) said they are placing additional protections to prevent off-topic reviews.

UnitedHealth's ( UNH ) Thompson was shot outside a Manhattan hotel on Wednesday morning by a masked suspect.
