India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation is looking into the unexpected deployment of a Boeing ( BA ) jet's emergency power system midair, during an Air India flight to the UK, Bloomberg News reported Monday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The plane's Ram Air Turbine, or RAT, was activated even without any known mechanical issues with the aircraft during the Saturday flight, sources told Bloomberg. The plane landed safely at its destination, Air India said.
According to the report, an Air India spokesperson said the plane was temporarily grounded after the incident for safety checks and is now back in the airline's fleet.
Boeing ( BA ) and India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation didn't immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
A spokesperson for Air India told MT Newswires that the company is aware of the incident and noted that its operations are "conducted in strict compliance with regulatory standards and manufacturer guidelines."
"We are cooperating fully with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in their review of the incident," the spokesperson said, without disclosing further details on the review.
