Trade association Airlines for America, along with American Airlines ( AAL ) , Delta Airlines (DAL), JetBlue Airways ( JBLU ) , Alaska Airlines Group (ALK), and Hawaiian Airlines sued the US Department of Transportation Friday over a new rule requiring upfront disclosure of airline fees, Reuters reported Monday, citing a copy of the lawsuit it saw.
Reuters said the suit was filed with the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals on Friday and that the airline group said the new rule will confuse consumers, referring to the policy as "a bad solution in search of a problem."
According to the newswire, the DOT said the new airfare rule will help consumers avoid unexpected fees and end the "bait-and-switch tactics" that certain airlines use in advertising promotional fares that do not include other fees.
DOT, Airlines for America, American Airlines ( AAL ), Delta Airlines, JetBlue Airways ( JBLU ), Alaska Airlines Group, and Hawaiian Airlines did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
