Meta Platforms ( META ) plans to appeal court rulings that allowed schools in the US to proceed with lawsuits accusing social media applications of contributing to the youth mental-health crisis, Bloomberg News reported Friday.
The company filed notices on Thursday to request that the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals review separate court orders that rejected its claim to dismiss the complaints, Bloomberg reported.
The orders were issued by a federal judge in California last month, ruling in favor of 34 attorneys general who sued Meta Platforms ( META ) for the alleged harmful effects of its Facebook and Instagram platforms, the report said.
A Meta spokesperson said in an email to MT Newswires that the company disagreed with the court's rulings and "evidence will demonstrate our commitment to supporting young people."
"We've developed numerous tools to support parents and teens, and we recently announced that we're significantly changing the Instagram experience for tens of millions of teens with new Teen Accounts, a protected experience for teens that automatically limits who can contact them and the content they see," the spokesperson said.
