10:22 AM EDT, 07/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with company response in the fourth paragraph.)
Meta Platforms ( META ) is almost certain to be hit by new antitrust charges in the EU as the Facebook owner is very unlikely to tweak its pay-or-consent model, Reuters reported Friday, citing people with direct knowledge of the matter.
The social media company won't make further changes to the model unless conditions change, the people reportedly said.
Last month, the European Commission warned the company of potential daily fines after it was told that Meta's model would only see limited changes to follow the EU's Digital Markets Act, according to the report.
The Commission didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires, while a Meta spokesperson declined to confirm or deny the matter but pointed to earlier statements highlighting the company is "very confident" of compliance with the DMA. The spokesperson also said Meta recently modified the wording and design of the choice it offers consumers to further address the Commission's feedback.
