Update: Market Chatter: Nokia's Mobile Networks Business Said to Draw Samsung's Interest
Aug 29, 2024 8:16 AM

10:06 AM EDT, 08/29/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Nokia ( NOK ) comment in the fifth paragraph.)

Nokia's ( NOK ) mobile networks assets have drawn preliminary interest from Samsung Electronics, among other potential suitors, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people with knowledge of the matter.

The Finnish telecommunications company has had talks with advisers about potential options for its mobile networks division, which has struggled in recent years to compete with rivals like Huawei Technologies, the people reportedly told Bloomberg.

Nokia ( NOK ) has considered multiple options, including selling some or all of the business, spinning it off, or combining with a rival, Bloomberg reported, citing the people.

Samsung has expressed initial interest in acquiring some Nokia ( NOK ) assets as it looks to increase scale in the radio access networks that connect cellphones to telecom infrastructure, the people reportedly told Bloomberg.

"Nokia ( NOK ) does not comment on market rumors or speculation," a company spokesperson told MT Newswires via email.

Samsung did not immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
