Novartis ( NVS ) is tracking the Trump administration's proposed reciprocal tariff policy "very carefully" and will respond accordingly once the policy is implemented next month, Reuters reported Monday, citing Novartis ( NVS ) Chief Executive Officer Vas Narasimhan.

"The real key is to see what are the policies that are actually implemented versus what's being said in the rhetoric," Narasimhan said, according to the report. "And then we're just going to have to respond appropriately."

"In the past, tariffs and other trade barriers have not applied to medicines because they could get in the way of patients receiving the medicines they need," a Novartis ( NVS ) spokesperson said in an email to MT Newswires.

New US trade policies "should be focused on eliminating unfair trade practices" globally without "inadvertently harming patients," the spokesperson said.
