Update: Market Chatter: Nvidia Seeing Increased Orders for H20 AI Chip as Demand for DeepSeek AI Models Rise
Feb 25, 2025 7:28 AM

10:03 AM EST, 02/25/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with comment from Nvidia ( NVDA ) in the fourth paragraph.)

Nvidia ( NVDA ) is seeing increased orders for its H20 artificial intelligence chip from Chinese companies like Alibaba Group ( BABA ) , ByteDance, and Tencent as demand for DeepSeek's low-cost AI models rise, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

Two of the sources told Reuters that the three Chinese firms "significantly increased" their orders of the chip, which is specifically made for China, because of US export rules. Another source said smaller companies in other sectors are also buying AI servers with H20 chips and DeepSeek models, the report added.

No further details on the orders were disclosed.

"NVIDIA ( NVDA ) wins on merit in a competitive field, and customers choose whatever solution is best for them," an Nvidia ( NVDA ) spokesperson said in response to a request for comment from MT Newswires. "Our competition includes chips from manufacturers, custom chips designed and developed by cloud service providers, and semi-custom chips made by large AI companies. While many products can perform inferencing, customers value our full-stack solution and appreciate that NVIDIA ( NVDA ) is available in every cloud and on-prem for every enterprise."

Alibaba ( BABA ), ByteDance, and Tencent did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
