10:47 AM EDT, 03/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to include a statement from a Nvidia ( NVDA ) spokesperson in the last paragraph.)

Nvidia ( NVDA ) is facing a proposed class action filed by three authors alleging that the company used their copyrighted books without permission in developing the NeMo artificial intelligence platform, Reuters reported Sunday, citing the class action filed in a San Francisco federal court.

In their suit, authors Brian Keene, Abdi Nazemian, and Stewart O'Nan alleged that the company used about 196,640 books, including theirs, to train NeMo in ordinary written language, according to the report. Reuters said the authors also stated that NeMo was shut down in October for reported copyright infringement.

According to the report, the authors are seeking unspecified damages.

A Nvidia ( NVDA ) spokesperson told MT Newswires that the company respects the rights of content creators and that it believes it developed NeMo "in full compliance with copyright law."
