Update: Market Chatter: Starbucks Union Votes to Authorize Strike Ahead of Final Bargaining Stages
Dec 17, 2024 10:44 AM

01:21 PM EST, 12/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Starbucks ( SBUX ) statement in the third and fourth paragraphs.)

The Starbucks ( SBUX ) Workers United union said that 98% of union workers voted to authorize a strike, if required, ahead of the final stages of bargaining over contract terms, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday.

The coffee giant has "yet to bring a comprehensive economic package to the bargaining table," the news outlet reported, citing the union, adding that numerous legal issues have yet to be resolved.

Starbucks ( SBUX ) told MT Newswires it is disappointing that the union is considering a strike instead of focusing on what have been highly productive negotiations, adding that it remains committed to collaboration and reaching a final framework agreement.

The company said no other retailer offers the "competitive pay and best in class benefits" that Starbucks ( SBUX ) offers.
