Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group ( SMFG ) is considering investing more than 100 billion yen ($677 million) in Jefferies Financial Group ( JEF ) , increasing the Japanese lender's stake in the US investment bank to about 20% from 15%, Bloomberg reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Jefferies declined to comment to MT Newswires.
