Update: Market Chatter: Tesla Halts Some Production Lines Amid Global IT Outages
Jul 19, 2024 11:28 AM

02:06 PM EDT, 07/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Adds details in third paragraph.)

Tesla (TSLA) halted some of its production lines Friday morning amid global IT chaos triggered by Microsoft ( MSFT ) and CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) outages, Business Insider reported.

The glitches did not appear to impact every production line, but the carmaker sent some of its factory workers home early during the night shift at its Austin, Texas, and Sparks, Nevada, factories, Business Insider reported Friday, citing three sources with knowledge of the issue.

The company was affected by a "Windows Host Outage" that resulted in issues with servers, laptops, and manufacturing devices, according to a staff memo, Business Insider reported. The factory workers have not been informed yet about when production lines will resume operations, the report said.

Tesla, Microsoft ( MSFT ), and CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) didn't immediately respond to requests for comments from MT Newswires.

"We just deleted Crowdstrike ( CRWD ) from all our systems, so no rollouts at all," Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said Friday on X.

In an interview on NBC News' Today program, CrowdStrike Holdings ( CRWD ) CEO George Kurtz apologized for the disruption caused by an update that CrowdStrike ( CRWD ) sent for Microsoft ( MSFT ) operating systems.
