Meta Platforms' ( META ) Instagram frequently recommends sexual videos to accounts for teenagers, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday, citing separate tests conducted by the publication and Northeastern University computer science professor Laura Edelson.
Similar tests for videos on Snapchat (SNAP) and TikTok did not produce the same sexualized content for underage users, according to the report.
Conducted during a seven-month period ending this month, the tests involving setting up new accounts with ages listed as 13 show that Instagram continued pushing adult-oriented content to minors, the report said. Meta said in January it was restricting what it calls sensitive content including sexually suggestive material, the Journal said.
Meta spokesman Andy Stone said the test was "an artificial experiment that doesn't match the reality of how teens use Instagram," the report said.
Meta didn't immediately reply to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
