TPG (TPG) is in advanced discussions to acquire the fiber business of Crown Castle ( CCI ) for $8 billion, Bloomberg News reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The companies could announce a deal for the fiber and wireless assets within weeks, the report said. Talks could collapse or another potential suitor could emerge, Bloomberg said.

TPG and Crown Castle ( CCI ) declined to comment, Bloomberg reported.

Crown Castle ( CCI ) declined to comment to MT Newswires, and TPG didn't immediately respond.

Crown Castle ( CCI ) shares rose 3.6% in after-hours activity, and TPG eased 0.1%.
