Update: Market Chatter: Unilever Under Pressure by Dutch Government to List Ice Cream Business in the Netherlands
Mar 22, 2024 8:44 AM

11:18 AM EDT, 03/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Unilever ( UL ) comment in the fifth paragraph.)

Unilever ( UL ) is being pressed by the Dutch government to list its ice cream business in the Netherlands, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing a spokesperson for the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Minister of Economic Affairs Micky Adriaansens will soon meet with Unilever ( UL ) Chief Executive Hein Schumacher to talk about the company's listing plans, the report added, citing the spokesperson.

Unilever ( UL ) said Tuesday it plans to spin off its ice cream unit and cut 7,500 jobs under a plan to rein in costs.

"This week, Unilever ( UL ) revealed that the ice cream division will be spun off. In doing so, the CEO said that the Netherlands is a good option for listing the ice cream division," a spokesperson for the Ministry of Economic Affairs told MT Newswires in an email. "This is a positive signal in line with previous commitments. We are and will remain in discussion with Unilever ( UL ) on this."

A Unilever ( UL ) spokesperson told MT Newswires in an email that "while a demerger of Ice Cream is the most likely separation route, other options will be considered to maximise returns for shareholders," adding that details will be "announced in due course."
