Update: Market Chatter: UPS, FedEx Seek to Bolster Networks for Holiday Season
Nov 24, 2025 8:37 AM

11:21 AM EST, 11/24/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with UPS comment in the fourth paragraph.)

United Parcel Service ( UPS ) and FedEx ( FDX ) are seeking to secure additional freighters for the holiday season amid an indefinite grounding of MD-11 jets, Bloomberg reported Sunday.

The Federal Aviation Administration grounded 167 MD-11 aircraft after a fatal crash in November, requiring inspections.

UPS operates 26 MD-11s, or about 9% of its fleet, while FedEx ( FDX ) has 28, or 4% of its aircraft, Bloomberg said.

UPS has taken multiple steps to manage its network, including securing additional aircraft, consolidating flight routes, and reconfiguring its ground network, a company spokesperson said Monday in an emailed statement to MT Newswires.

FedEx ( FDX ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

UPS shares fell 0.4% in recent Monday trading, and FedEx ( FDX ) eased 0.1%.
