US lawmakers sent letters to companies including Amazon.com ( AMZN ) , Apple ( AAPL ) , and JPMorgan Chase ( JPM ) , seeking explanations for their continued use of H-1B visas while cutting other jobs, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

In their letters, Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and ranking member Dick Durbin requested detailed information on how many H-1B workers the companies employ, what wages they receive, and whether US workers were displaced, the report said.

Letters also went to Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ), Meta Platforms ( META ) , Microsoft ( MSFT ) , Walmart ( WMT ) , and Cognizant Technology Solutions ( CTSH ) , with responses requested by Oct. 10, the report said.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) declined to comment to MT Newswires, and the other companies did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
