05:46 AM EDT, 04/23/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with a response from Hanwha Q Cells in the last two paragraphs.)
Maxeon Solar Technologies ( MAXN ) said Monday it has initiated a lawsuit against Hanwha Q Cells (HQCL) alleging patent infringement of its Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact solar cell technology.
Maxeon filed the lawsuit in the Eastern District of Texas following another patent infringement suit over the same technology against REC Solar on Friday and another action against Canadian Solar (CSIQ).
The company said it launched an investigation in November to ascertain whether companies were infringing on its patents. Marc Robinson, Maxeon's associate general counsel, said the company "will continue to enforce its patent rights against those who are attempting to sell infringing products."
Hanwha Q Cells said in a statement to MT Newswires that it rejects Maxeon's assertions and "intends to defend vigorously all allegations of patent infringement in court." It added that "there will be no disruption in the operations of the business as a result of such allegations."
"Qcells takes seriously its responsibility to establish a healthy industry landscape in which time- and capital-intensive R&D efforts are properly protected," the company said.
