09:57 AM EDT, 03/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to include Reuters' report that some McDonald's stores are back online in the third paragraph.)
McDonald's (MCD) on Friday experienced technology outages that disrupted operations of many of its outlets worldwide, including in Japan and Australia.
"We are aware of a technology outage, which impacted our restaurants; the issue is now being resolved," the fast-food giant told MT Newswires in an emailed statement. They added that "the issue is not related to a cybersecurity event."
Reuters reported that some McDonald's stores are back online as recovery work continues. The newswire said stores in the UK and Ireland, and most branches in Australia have reopened hours after the system disruption.
On Friday, McDonald's Japan posted on social media platform X that many of its stores nationwide have temporarily suspended operations due to what it called a system failure. McDonald's branches in Australia were also affected by the technology outage, but the company said on X that most of its restaurants in the country were back online.
Customers in other countries have also posted complaints about outages across social media, according to media reports.
