Update: Meta, Google Reportedly Found Liable in Social Media Addiction Trial
Mar 25, 2026 12:20 PM

02:53 PM EDT, 03/25/2026 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Google's ( GOOG ) response to a request for comment in the third paragraph.)

Meta Platforms ( META ) and Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) were found liable by a jury for a 20-year-old woman's alleged addiction to their social media platforms, multiple news outlets reported Wednesday.

"We respectfully disagree with the verdict and are evaluating our legal options," a Meta spokesperson said via email to MT Newswires.

"We disagree with the verdict and plan to appeal," a Google ( GOOG ) spokesperson told MT Newswires. "This case misunderstands YouTube ( GOOG ), which is a responsibly built streaming platform, not a social media site."
