01:34 PM EDT, 10/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Snap's statement in the fourth paragraph.)
Meta Platforms ( META ) CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Snap (SNAP) CEO Evan Spiegel, and Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri will need to testify in the first trial on the adverse effects of social media on younger users, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday, citing a ruling from Judge Carolyn Kuhl of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County.
Kuhl wrote that the CEOs' testimonies would be "uniquely relevant" in the legal case, in which the social media platforms are accused of deliberately creating addictive features that have a negative impact on children's mental health, the outlets reported.
Company representatives on Monday had sought to prevent the CEOs from testifying, according to the reports.
Snap, citing a statement by its counsel Kirkland & Ellis, said in an email to MT Newswires that the recent court ruling "does not bear at all" on the validity of the plaintiffs' claims. The law firm looks forward to explaining why the allegations against Snapchat are "wrong factually and as a matter of law," according to the statement.
Meta did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
