Update: Micron Technology Ordered to Pay Netlist $445 Million in Patent Infringement Case
May 28, 2024 1:33 AM

04:13 AM EDT, 05/28/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with responses from Micron and Netlist in the third and fourth paragraphs.)

Micron Technology ( MU ) was ordered by a jury to pay $445 million in damages to Netlist in a patent infringement case, a legal document issued Thursday by the District Court in the Eastern District of Texas showed.

The jurors said Micron willfully infringed on two Netlist patents for technology improving the memory and performance of semiconductors, which could allow the judge to triple the damages, Reuters reported.

Micron said it disagreed with the verdict. "Micron's evidence presented during the trial demonstrates that Micron does not infringe either of the patents asserted by Netlist," the company said.

OTC-listed Netlist won $303.2 million in damages in a similar patent infringement case against Samsung last year, the company said. "Juries fundamentally understand that the intentional unauthorized use of intellectual property created by others is improper," C.K. Hong, Netlist's chief executive, said in a statement. "The $445 million awarded for past damages from Micron's unauthorized use underscores the immense value of Netlist's technology."
