Microsoft ( MSFT )-backed (MSFT) OpenAI unveiled on Tuesday ChatGPT Gov, which it said is designed to provide US government agencies with an extra way to access OpenAI's frontier models.

Government agencies will be able to use ChatGPT Gov in their own Microsoft Azure commercial cloud or in the Azure Government cloud, the parent of generative artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT said.

OpenAI expects the infrastructure to "expedite" internal authorization of its tools for the handling of non-public sensitive data. The company said it is also assessing expanding ChatGPT Gov to Azure's classified regions.

Microsoft ( MSFT ) shares were up 1.9% in recent trading.
