Morgan Stanley's ( MS ) shares were up nearly 7% in recent Wednesday trading after the company reported Q3 earnings and revenue above analyst estimates.

The firm posted Q3 earnings of $2.80 per diluted share, up from $1.88 a year earlier.

Analysts polled by FactSet expected $2.08.

Net revenue for the quarter ended Sept. 30 was $18.22 billion, compared with $15.38 billion a year earlier.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected $16.69 billion.
