Motorola Solutions ( MSI ) said that a US federal court ruled that Hytera Communications continues to use Motorola's trade secrets in its digital mobile radios and ordered the Shenzhen, China-based company to pay an additional $70 million in royalties and interest.
The US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois "found that Hytera's H-Series products are substantially similar to Hytera's previously adjudicated" digital mobile radios and repeaters, Motorola said Tuesday in a statement.
The court ordered Hytera to pay $59 million in royalties, plus $11 million in interest, for global sales of H-Series radios through Q1 2024, adding to the $550 million in judgment and royalties previously awarded, Motorola said.
Hytera said it was reviewing the rulings and would consider all available legal options. "While Hytera respects the court's decision, we are disappointed with the outcome," the company said in a statement e-mailed to MT Newswires. "We disagree with the alleged contempt for violating the court's royalty order and the fines relevant to anti-suit compliance."
