Nexstar Media Group ( NXST ) and Sinclair (SBGI) said late Wednesday that they have decided to indefinitely preempt the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" show, effective immediately.
The moves come following Kimmel's remarks regarding the recent killing of Charlie Kirk.
"Mr. Kimmel's comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse," said Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division, in a statement.
Nexstar said it will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.
Separately, Sinclair said it will not lift the suspension of the show on its stations until formal discussions are held with Walt Disney's ( DIS ) ABC regarding the network's commitment to "professionalism and accountability".
US President Donald Trump lauded the decision. "The ratings-challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is cancelled," Trump said in a social media post. "Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done."
