04:11 PM EST, 02/07/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with comment from Prime Video spokesperson and additional details.)
Nokia ( NOK ) prevailed against Amazon.com ( AMZN ) in a German court fight over a patent owned by the Finnish network equipment manufacturer, an spokesperson for Amazon Prime Video told MT Newswires on Friday.
The Prime Video spokesperson said the company intends to comply with Friday's ruling handed down by a court in Dusseldorf. Nokia ( NOK ) filed suit against Amazon ( AMZN ) in 2023 alleging the company was using more than 30 of its patented video-related technologies in the European Union, Great Britain, India and Brazil.
The case also is pending in the US at the International Trade Commission district court, according to Nokia's ( NOK ) most recent annual report.
Amazon ( AMZN ) can be fined up to 250,000 euro ($258,238) for each violation, according to media reports, which also speculate a decision could keep Prime Video offline in certain jurisdictions.
There is no risk of that happening, according to Amazon ( AMZN ). "There is absolutely no risk at all for customers losing access to Prime Video," the Prime spokesperson said.
Nokia ( NOK ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
